A note on guide rods:
It is my opinion that guide rods are a good thing. They keep the spring contained in a specific
path and promote smoother functioning. Also I will not use a one piece guide rod in a pistol with
a fitted match bushing. With a one piece rod the only way to take the pistol apart is to turn the
(fitted )bushing on the barrel while it is locked up, this will slowly ruin the fit. The proper way to
disassemble a 1911 with a fitted bushing is , remove front half of guide rod, retract slide to take
down notch and remove slide stop, move slide forward and off the frame, remove spring from
rear, drop barrel out of battery and move forward slightly, Now you can turn the bushing on the
relieved portion of the barrel. A one piece rod prevents this take down method.
